Even though only two of his fellow Republican members of Congress voted to censure Rep. Paul Gosar this week, the Arizona congressman responded with gallows humor.
Gosar boasted in an expletive-filled Facebook post that two members of his caucus voted in favor of taking action against him, while the other eleven Republicans voted to let his behavior go without punishment.
“But out of the eleven that voted for censure, only 2 opposed it!” Gosar wrote. “That leaves us with one rogue member in my caucus that did not support my censure request! Come on guys, how stupid is that?”
Gosar was responding to the Congressional Black Caucus’ (CBC) decision to vote for censure on Wednesday, citing his demonstration against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at a rally last month. Gosar encouraged members of the Resistance to confront Ocasio-Cortez’s supporters as they took the House subway and to make “non violent resistance” to President Trump’s policies a regular tradition, according to CBS News.
Speaker Paul Ryan had to authorize a vote on the censure resolution, according to ABC News. The resolution has been passed 49 to 4.
